Posted August 17, 2018 10:37:51 When it comes to the NCAA tournament, the Atlantic Coast Conference has had an up and down year in recent years.
The conference lost out on a trip to Boston and lost to the ACC’s Miami Hurricanes.
But with two other conferences set to play the Big Dance, it’s clear that conference’s are no strangers to the big dance.
Here’s what to expect in the Big East, and what you need to know about the conference’s upcoming games.
The Big East will face a very big task to earn a berth in the tournament.
The Atlantic 10, which had a 4-5 record in the 2017-18 season, will get a boost with two of its three teams expected to play in the ACC Tournament.
The Mountaineers, who have the league’s best record, will travel to Providence on Friday, while the Terriers will play the Panthers on Saturday and the Terrapins on Sunday.
The winner of those games will play against the Big Ten’s Boston College Eagles on the weekend of June 14.
That game is one of the most highly anticipated for the conference.
Boston College will be hoping to break its season-high five-game losing streak with a win.
The Eagles, who are looking for their first win in nine tries, also are coming off a tough loss at home against Maryland.
If Boston College can’t get the win, it would be a disappointing outcome for the Eagles, whose record in conference play is 4-4 and has fallen behind the league-best Pittsburgh Panthers (10-1) in the standings.
Boston will also face the ACC champions North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday, the ACC champion Clemson Tigers on Sunday, and the defending national champion Virginia Cavaliers on Tuesday.
The ACC champions, with their 11-2 conference record, should be the conference favorites to win the conference title.
However, if the ACC loses, it will be hard for the ACC to compete for a berth to the Big 12, which will likely have to play its first game at an arena in Oklahoma City, which is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 18.
The teams in the league standings would be the ACC East and the ACC West, respectively.
The league’s three conferences have had ups and downs over the last few years, and some have experienced some of the ups and down.
While the ACC has lost four of its last five games, it has had a few ups and some of those ups came during the conference season, such as the 2017 NCAA tournament when it lost to Florida Atlantic and Georgia Southern.
In 2019-20, the league played its first tournament game against the SEC, and it lost in overtime to Georgia Southern in the quarterfinals.
The season-opening game was a rematch of last season, when the ACC lost to Miami (Fla.) in the championship game.
That season-ending loss was followed by a conference championship game loss to Georgia, which fell short in the NCAA Tournament.
Boston University and Maryland are in a race for the Big South title.
The Terrapines and the Mountaineer women’s basketball teams have a shot at making the Final Four this season, but the Terps are looking to rebound after falling to Texas A&M in the first round.
The defending national champions also will face off with Florida State in the Sweet 16.
The last time the teams met was in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division I tournament in 2015, when Terps led by 17 points with five minutes left and Maryland scored the last four points to pull out the win.
That victory was also the last time Boston College and Maryland met in the national semifinals, when both teams went to the Sweet Sixteen.
Both teams have been ranked in the top 10 of their respective conferences, so it won’t be an easy game for either team.
Both the Terpics and the Bruins are playing without their starting point guard, with the Terpenes leading the way.
While senior guard Morgan Smith is expected to return, senior forward Alyssa Dye is expected back after missing all of last year with a knee injury.
Dye averaged 9.7 points per game in 2017-19, while Smith averaged 9,926 points.
Both point guards are still considered top-10 players in the country, and this is one that will be played in front of the largest crowd in college basketball.
The Conference USA race is heating up.
The Southland Conference will host the Big West Tournament on Thursday, and then it will host its third tournament game on Saturday.
The game is expected be the first of three that will take place in San Antonio, Texas, where the league is based.
The Bears have won four straight games to finish the season, including a 20-point win over Colorado State.
But that streak has come with a host of injuries, as the Bears are missing the services of four starters.
