Auburn wide receiver Brandon Stidham has experienced the most sleep deprivation of any player on the team, and the Tigers are not happy about it.
The team’s former quarterback has been one of the worst performers in the NFL since his release in 2016.
Stidman is currently rehabbing a torn ACL, and his recovery is expected to take six to eight months.
He has never played more than 20 games in a season, and was just released from the team in May, leaving his status as a starter uncertain.
After missing the entire 2016 season, Stidmans injury and subsequent absence has forced the Tigers to look at their wide receivers and see if they can help improve their game.
Auburn has the No. 4-ranked receiving corps in the country, and three receivers — Stidhawn Evans, Deonte Thompson and Corey Robinson — are on the roster.
But they haven’t had a receiver on the field for more than a week.
The Tigers are now searching for their next receiving option, and Stidhman has been a focal point.
His presence has helped the team create an environment that is conducive to running plays and taking advantage of the Tigers ability to run the ball.
But the Tigers lack an established receiver at the position.
While the wide receivers may not have the talent of some of the team’s other wide receivers, they do have some experience in the game.
Stiddham has been in the news a lot lately, as he was the star of a game on Thursday, when he ran for a touchdown and caught five passes for 62 yards.
The other receivers on the Tigers roster have been less than stellar.
Receiver Tyler Murphy, who signed with the team last month, is the only one of those on the active roster who has had more than one pass break up in his career.
Murphy is a big, physical receiver who can play in the slot or in the deep half of the field.
He was a fourth-round pick in 2017 out of Georgia Southern.
Stidham is currently the third-leading receiver on Auburn’s depth chart behind Thompson and Robinson, but he has never had a real chance to show what he can do on the big stage.
The team signed tight end Jordan Thompson in the spring, and he is an excellent blocker and blocker-esque receiver.
He is a bit undersized, but Thompson is a very good blocker.
The biggest issue for Stidhart is that he has not shown that he is capable of being the teams top receiver.
That could be a problem going forward if Auburn doesn’t find a way to replace him in a hurry.
The NFL is full of players who can be elite receivers.
But if the team wants to compete at the highest level, they will have to find a replacement for Stiddhman.
